Selangor State Government as at 30th June 2008 has stopped issuing new sand mining permit in Selangor. However, the mining permits which expire after that date, mining is still permitted until its respective expiry date.
From 1st July 2008, the Government has entrusted a government link company to handle sand mining industry in Selangor. The company under Menteri Besar Incorporated has been named as Kumpulan Semesta Sdn. Bhd. Eventually, the company would be named Kumpulan Khazanah Selangor Berhad.
KSSB from thereon would be the sole permit holder for extraction and removal of sand, red soil, clay, gravel and other minerals in Selangor.
KSSB was incorporated in view to regulate the mining activities and to ensure maximum revenue for the state government via proper collection of mining royalty.
